CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois women's golf team shot three rounds in the 70s at the 12th Annual Saluki Invitational on Monday, good enough for third place. The Salukis finished with a 628 two-round total at the Hickory Ridge Golf Course.
SIU was paced by fifth place finisher Samantha Sutzer, who carded a 79 on the day with a total of 153. This was Sutzer's lowest two-round total of the season.
Josie Lowder tied for ninth with a 5-over-par 77 in the second round. Christine Zoerlein and Kate Laegeler both finished the tournament with a 161 total, tying for 20th place.
Also golfing for the Salukis were Braidy Hood and Abbigail Johnson. Hood tied for 29th (163), while Johnson tied for 39th (168).
The top three places remained the same as Bradley took the lead in the first round and never looked back, finishing 10 strokes ahead of the pack (614). Eastern Kentucky stayed in second (624), as SIU held on to third.
Meaghan LeBlanc of Bradley also maintained her lead and took home the individual trophy with a 147 total, just three over par. Bradley had two other individuals finish in the top ten. Rounding out the top five was Illinois State in fourth (629), followed by Murray State in fifth (640).
The Salukis will play their final regular season tournament in Springfield, Mo., on the Rivercut Golf Course April 3-4. SIU will take part in the Payne Stewart Memorial hosted by MSU before heading to Wichita April 17-19 for the conference tournament.
