STARKVILLE, Miss. - After going a perfect 5-0 in the circle last week, #24/25 Southern Illinois University's junior pitcher Cassidy Scoggins was named the Louisville Slugger / National Fastpitch Coaches Association National Division I Player of the Week, the NFCA announced Wednesday.
This marks her second individual honor of the week as she was named Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher of the week on Monday. It marks the second time in Scoggins' career that she has earned the honor. She was named Louisville Slugger / NFCA National Player of the Week on April 20, 2005.
Scoggins struck out 36 batters over the 28 innings that she pitched. She pitched three complete-game shutout wins while picking up two wins in relief appearances.
Opponents hit just .132 against the junior from Owasso, Okla. over the week. In the opening game against Indiana State last week, Scoggins hurled 12 strikeouts, one shy of her career high and the fifth time this season that she has pitched double-digit strikeouts.
Her perfect record last week moved her to 22-6 overall coming into this week's games, also giving her a MVC-best 0.89 ERA.
