CARBONDALE, Ill. - For more than a month the #24/25 Southern Illinois Softball team has been able to avoid running into its toughest opponent this season - the weather. That came to an end Sunday afternoon as thunderstorms passing through the Carbondale, Ill. area forced the cancellation of SIU's final game with Creighton.
The game was scoreless, about to go into the bottom of the second inning when officials decided to delay the game at 12:07 p.m.
The game goes down in the books as the 15th game this season that the Salukis have had to cancel. SIU hadn't had to cancel a game since its Spring Break trip to California that ended with the cancellation of a doubleheader with St. Mary's (CA).
SIU and Creighton split Saturday's doubleheader. The Bluejays won the first game 2-1, but the Salukis rebounded to take the win in the second game, 8-2.
The Salukis return to action Saturday, April 29 with a doubleheader against Bradley in Peoria, Ill. Action is set to begin at 12 p.m. at Laura Bradley Park.
