ST. LOUIS - Following her performance last week against UT Martin and Illinois State, Southern Illinois University's Katie Louis was named Missouri Valley Conference Softball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
A native of O'Fallon, Ill., the senior infielder was instrumental in #25 SIU's four wins last week.
Louis led the Salukis at the plate last week, starting all five games and hitting .462 (6-for-13) with two doubles, two home runs and six RBI.
Her four extra-base hits gave her a 1.077 slugging percentage for the week and combined with the three walks that she drew, had a .563 on-base percentage.
Louis also contributed directly to two of SIU's four wins last week. She scored the game-winning run in the second game against UT Martin and she hit the game-winning RBI in the third game against Illinois State as Krystal Stein scored on her single in the third inning.
Louis had her best games of the week in the final two against Illinois State. She was a perfect 2-for-2 in the second game Saturday with two doubles, two walks, two runs and two RBI. In Sunday's final game, Louis was near perfect, going 2-for-3 with a run and three RBI. She also hit her sixth home run of the season in the game.
The Salukis (23-5) return to action Wednesday with a doubleheader against Middle Tennessee State. Action is set to begin at 4 p.m. at SIU's Charlotte West Stadium.
