OMAHA, Neb. - Two home runs by Drake's Shanna Cook spelled the end of the #25 Southern Illinois University's live in the Missouri Valley Conference Softball Tournament as the Bulldogs win 4-1, eliminating the Salukis.
SIU now awaits the decision of the NCAA Selection Committee as to a NCAA Tournament berth.
Drake was first to attack as Cook sent a home run to right-center in the fourth inning, scoring Marilyn Buss who hit a leadoff single.
SIU struck back in the top of the sixth as Amanda Clifton hit a solo home run to cut the lead to 2-1.
That did not last long, though, as Cook hit her second home run of the day, scoring Jaci Faidley who led off with a bunt single, extending the lead to 4-1.
Jessica Hicks and Cassie Heller split pitching duties for Drake. Hicks gave up two hits, striking out four while Heller gave up three hits and a run, striking out one.
Junior Cassidy Scoggins takes the loss for SIU and falls to 25-10 on the season. She struck out five Bulldogs, giving up five hits and four runs.
