CARBONDALE, Ill. - A wall of storms set to pass through the Champaign-Urbana, Ill. area in the early afternoon and evening Wednesday has forced the cancellation of the Southern Illinois University's doubleheader with the University of Illinois.
The doubleheader was scheduled for a 4 p.m. start. The cancellation marks the 19th and 20th of SIU's games this season that have been cancelled. The Salukis lead the nation in cancelled games this season.
The cancellation is also the latest in a string of six consecutive cancelled games. It started with the cancellation of the final game against Creighton on April 23 and continued with the cancellation of all three games at Bradley last weekend.
The Salukis return to action Friday with their final series of the regular season. SIU will travel to Wichita State for a three-game Missouri Valley Conference series, beginning Friday with a single game at 6 p.m.
