CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois University men's basketball coach Chris Lowery announced today that center Kobby Acquah (pronounced Ko-bee, Ock-wah) has transferred to SIU from Division II Clark Atlanta University.
Acquah, a 7-foot-1, 225-pound senior, is immediately eligible and has one year of eligibility remaining. Last season, the Ghana native averaged 4.1 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.9 blocked shots per game. As a junior in 2004-05, he averaged 4.7 points, 9.6 rebounds and 4.1 blocks per game.
Under normal circumstances, transfers from four-year colleges must sit out one year. However, Acquah transferred under the NCAA's "Discontinued Academic Program Exception." An engineering major, his program was dropped at Clark Atlanta.
Acquah was named to the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) All-Academic team last season.
