ST. LOUIS - The Southern Illinois women's golf team currently sits atop the Missouri Valley Conference leaderboard following the team's four-tournament fall season.
The Salukis posted an average score of 309.80 through ten rounds of golf in the fall, giving them the No. 1 spot in the league.
"We just got the fall standings from the MVC and I am thrilled to see we are leading the Valley," said head coach Diane Daugherty. "We don't play a traditional schedule like other sports playing Valley teams each week.
"Everything comes down to the conference tournament in April. The first place standing gives us confidence heading into the spring, hoping for a repeat of the MVC title and return trip to the NCAA's."
Sitting just behind SIU in second place is Illinois State with a 310.38 through 13 rounds. In third is Missouri State with a team average of 310.67 through 12 rounds. Bradley holds the fourth spot with a 313.82 through 11 rounds.
Evansville is in fifth with a 314. 57 through seven rounds, followed by Indiana State in sixth (317.67, nine rounds), Northern Iowa in seventh (318.62, 13 rounds), Drake in eighth (320.64, 11 rounds), Wichita State in ninth (321.43, 14 rounds) and Creighton in 10th (326.33, 12 rounds).
Individually, Kelly Gerlach finished the fall in second place in the Valley with a 76.3 average through 10 rounds. Christine Zoerlein holds the No. 8 spot with a 77.7 through 10 rounds. Braidy Hood finished 12th in the fall with a 78.3 through 10 rounds. Lauren May is ranked 22nd in the Valley with a 79.6 through 10 rounds.
