ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Saluki guard Tony Young was named the Missouri Valley Conference Player-of-the-Week on Monday. It marked the first time in his four-year career that Young has won the award.
Young led Southern Illinois to wins over Bradley and Creighton last week. He scored a season-high 25 points in the win over the Braves, as he picked up the scoring slack for injured teammate Jamaal Tatum.
Against the Bluejays, Young scored 11 points and added 5 assists and 2 steals. His jumper in the lane in the closing seconds proved to be the game-winner against Creighton.
For the week, he shot 14-of-21 (.667) from the field, 5-of-7 (.714) from 3-point range and added six assists and three steals
