Biggs, Riley Earn MVC Track and Field Weekly Honors

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Southern Illinois University track and field athletes Brittany Riley and Sammy Biggs were named Missouri Valley Conference Female Field Athlete and Male Track Athlete of the Week the league announced Tuesday afternoon.
Riley, who hails from Flossmoor, Ill., won the shot put with a toss of 44-02.75, the discus with a career-best mark of 169-09 (18th-best nationally), second all-time at SIU.
She also won the hammer throw for the third time this season in three meets with a toss of 209-10, winning by over 40 feet with what is the eighth-best national toss. Riley is currently ranked first in the nation in the hammer and 18th in the nation in the discus.
Biggs, a freshman from Morrison, Ill., finished second in the 200-meter dash at the Gatorade Classic in Cape Girardeau, Mo. over the weekend in an MVC-best time of 21.91.
This marks the sixth time this season and the eighth time Riley has garnered weekly honors in her Saluki career. This is Biggs' first honor.
