CARBONDALE, Ill. - The weather struck again Wednesday as early-morning thunderstorms in middle Tennessee forced the cancellation of the afternoon softball game between No. 20/22 Southern Illinois and Middle Tennessee State.
The game is SIU's fifth in the past eight days that has been cancelled because of weather. The Salukis cancelled last Tuesday's doubleheader with Southeast Missouri State because of thunderstorms and followed up with the cancellation of Saturday's doubleheader with Drake because of cold temperatures.
The cancellation comes after SIU's thrilling 3-2, 10-inning win over Evansville on Tuesday at Charlotte West Stadium.
Southern Illinois will return to action this weekend with a three-game Missouri Valley Conference series against Missouri State. Play is set to begin Saturday with a 12 p.m. doubleheader at SIU's Charlotte West Stadium.
