Southern Illinois Head Coach Kerri Blaylock
On the game...
"I think we started out a little rocky. Cassidy walked a batter and then they came through with some big hits. They attacked the ball and made great adjustment from the first time we played them. Got to give them credit on their aggressiveness."
"We had a good first inning at bats, then we started having difficulties. Pitching is a very interesting thing, some days you're on and some days you're off. When you're off it really stinks, especially against a good team. They hit the ball extremely well. We better be ready to play tomorrow."
Southern Illinois pitcher Ashley Hamby
On her performance...
"The goal of a pitcher is when ever you go in to keep them to as few runs as you can. To allow our chance to get back into the game."
On what they need to do for tomorrow's game...
"As a group we aren't going to forget this game. You can't let this one game hold you back; we have so much ability and more tournament to play. We can't base everything on this one game."
University of Missouri Head Coach Ehren Earlewine
On adjustments to the team...
"We are playing with more confidence than we did during the first game we played Southern Illinois. We had difficulties playing teams prior to Southern Illinois. Everything started to come together during Big 12 season play. We had good defense today and we swung at the right pitches, which made a difference for us. We have come along way this year. I'm very proud of our girls.
On the team's lead...
"Anytime you can score first is a big momentum change for us. We have come from behind so many times this year that we are used to being in that position. It really doesn't make a difference whether we are ahead or not, because we have been there before, although it is a really good feeling to be ahead."
University of Missouri pitcher Jen Bruck
On having a lead...
"A huge confidence boost. It takes the pressure of the defense. We were hitting and driving the ball, it was amazing. I was able to throw right at them and it worked that they hit ground balls to us."
On batting and her home run...
"I finally feel comfortable at the plate. I feel that I have my swing back a little bit. We really don't talk about hitting home runs, other than when it happens."
University of Missouri left fielder Micaela Minner
On the team's performance...
"Last time that we faced (Cassidy Scoggins), she no-hit us. We were ready to get back and show her what we can do. Knowing that we could hit her increased our confidence, especially since they had to bring in another pitcher."
