University of Missouri 7, Southern Illinois 4
Southern Illinois Head Coach Kerri Blaylock
On the game...
"I'm very, very proud of my kids. I thought they battled really hard today. Both pitchers have had to throw a lot of innings and Missouri was hitting the ball extremely well. I thought we fought really hard. They did a tremendous job. The one thing that I saw today is a huge amount of fight from my team in an adverse situation. We did a tremendous job of fighting back and making it a really good game."
On the end of the season...
It is a very sad time for me when you have to end like this and lose the kids you care about and have meant so much to the program. Cassidy, Ashley, and AC have been like a security blanket. When they go you have to replace them and it should be interesting with new players. I say this every year because I have a special bond with my players. They are very special people to me. It was a great season. I have so many great memories of these kids; it is so hard to let them go."
Southern Illinois pitcher Cassidy Scoggins
On her performance after pitching the previous game...
"I felt good. I knew before the game that I needed to be ready. After what they did to me yesterday in the first game, I just wanted to come out and try to keep it to as little runs as possible, because I knew we could score some runs."
On her last game as a Saluki...
"I have a lot of good memories here, part with the coaches and part with the team. We had a lot of good times and not so good times."
Southern Illinois outfielder Katie Wilson
On adjusting to the outfield...
"When Kerri said the line up, I made the best of it. I tried to battle the sun the best I could. They hit the ball when and I had to adjust the best I could."
University of Missouri infielder Amanda Renth
On hitting her home run...
"It really has been a long time, I was wondering when I was going to hit the ball hard. It felt great out there. Pitch selection was key in my hitting today."
On having the lead...
"I think it is great for the pitchers to get a lead and pitch with it. It makes them a lot more aggressive out there. Attacking the ball early rather than getting behind and attacking bad pitches was important. We have been playing great defense."
University of Missouri pitcher Jana Hainey
On her performance...
"It felt good. I was a little nervous going out there. It was my first start in a while. It felt good, especially when the offense is working like it did, makes it a lot easier to go out there and pitch my game."
University of Missouri Head Coach Ehren Earleywine
On the game...
"You have to look at it through SIU eyes a little bit. They just got done playing 7 innings and Scoggins threw all 7. It was in the heat of the day and them she tried to come back and pitch again. That's not easy to do. I give our hitters a lot of credit. We watched a lot of video and how Scoggins worked. We had a good idea of how we were going to approach her."
On tomorrow's game against DePaul...
"DePaul is a great team and I haven't seen them before this weekend. The thing that most impresses me about DePaul is that they pitch really, really well. It is tough to scratch 2 or 3 runs off them. The interesting thing about Sundays is that if you are able to win the first game all of a sudden the momentum and pressure shifts and in the second game anything can happen."
