Davis earns Academic All-District honors

CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois middle distance runner Ty-Nica Davis earned a spot on the 2007 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District women's track & field/cross country District V second team CoSIDA announced Thursday.
Davis, a senior from Madisonville, Ky., holds a 3.50 grade point average in Communicative Science Disorders. She was a six-time Missouri Valley Conference champion and a four-time MVC Scholar-Athlete. An NCAA regional qualfier in the 800-meter run two straight years, she finished fourth at the 2006 Mideast Regionals and 13th at the 2006 NCAA Championships. Most recently, she finished 11th at the 2007 Mideast Regional Championship meet. She wraps up her career with four school records in the indoor and outdoor 800, indoor 600 and as a member of the 4x400 record-holding team.
To qualify for nomination, each student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and have reached sophomore athletic or academic standing. Each athlete must also compete in at least 50 percent of each team's competitions. All first-team all-district athletes will be eligible for Academic All-American honors.
