Southern Illinois University guard Bryan Mullins was named to the CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District team on Friday. He is now eligible for Academic All-America honors.
Mullins has emerged this season as one of the best guards in the Missouri Valley Conference. He averages 10.8 ppg, leads the league in steals (2.3 spg) and is second in assists (5.3 apg). In the last nine games, Mullins has recorded 49 assists and made just nine turnovers -- a 5.4-to-1 ratio. Mullins, a finance major, has a perfect 4.0 grade point average.
Mullins is one of three MVC players to earn Academic All-District honors. The other two are Drake's Adam Emmenecker (District VII) and Evansville's Jason Holsinger (District V)
Voting for the team is conducted by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). All-District selections are the finalists for the ESPN The Magazine / CoSIDA Academic All-America Team, which will be chosen later this month.
