Women's Golf finishes second at Diablo Grande Invitational

PATTERSON, Calif. - The Southern Illinois women's golf team finished in second place at the Diablo Grande Invitational.
The Saluki women posted a team score of 962 through the three-day tournament to come away with the second-place finish.
"The golf course was extremely tough," said head coach Diane Daugherty. "We had a chance to maybe take Minnesota, but they played really well in the last round."
SIU's low scorer was Kelly Gerlach who posted a 237 (85-76-76) through three rounds to finish tied for second.
Lauren May finished the tournament tied for fourth with a three-round total of 238 (85-79-74).
Christine Zoerlein posted a 244 (80-82-82) for an 11th-place tie.
Kate Laegeler rounded out SIU's scoring in the play five, count four tournament. Laegeler shot a 246 (86-79-81) to finish tied for 13th.
Also competing for the Salukis was Braidy Hood, who finished in 26th place with a 252 (89-79-84).
SIU will be back in action on Sunday, March 30 and Monday, March 31 when they host the 2008 Saluki Invitational at Hickory Ridge Golf Course in Carbondale.
"I think this was a good springboard going into the Saluki Invitational," said Daugherty. "Beating all the Valley teams there is obviously a confidence booster."
