ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Missouri Valley Football Conference announced Sunday that Southern Illinois redshirt freshman quarterback Paul McIntosh and senior wide receiver Bryce Morris have been named the offensive and special teams players of the week, respectively.
The awards come after SIU's 33-0 victory at Indiana State on Halloween in Memorial Stadium.
This is the fourth-straight week that a Saluki has been honored as a MVFC player of the week and a league-leading ninth time overall on the year. For both Salukis, this marks the first time in their careers that they have been named player of the week.
McIntosh threw for 159 yards and ran for 57 with two rushing touchdowns while making his first career start. He completed 15-of-22 passes without an interception in SIU's 33-0 win over Indiana State. McIntosh's longest completion was for 37 yards to Morris and his long run on the day was a 32-yard scamper. He was not sacked once on the afternoon.
Morris blocked a punt late in the second quarter that was recovered by Beau Hoffman and returned four yards for a touchdown. It was the second-straight game that SIU has blocked a punt. Morris finished the day with four catches for a career-high 80 yards and the first blocked punt of his career.
No. 3 Southern Illinois (7-1, 6-0 MVFC) travels to Brookings, S.D. next Saturday, Nov. 7 for a winner-take-all contest at No. 9 South Dakota State (7-1, 6-0). The winning team will claim at least a share of the regular-season title and the conference's automatic bid into the FCS Playoffs.
A victory over the Jackrabbits next Saturday will also give Southern Illinois its 13th-straight MVFC win and tie the conference record for most consecutive league victories.
It will be the first-ever meeting between two Valley teams with 6-0 league records. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. CT in Coughlin Alumni Stadium.
