CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois University women's golf team finished fourth at the 15th annual Saluki Invitational.
Fifteen teams competed in the 36-hole tournament at Hickory Ridge Golf course. The Salukis entered the tournament as the defending champions, however it was Drake who took home the title this year. Drake finished first with a score of 630 (313-317), Ball State finished second with 634 (321-313), Bradley shot 636 (321-315) for third place, Southern Illinois finished fourth with 639 (322-317), and Murray State shot 643 for the final spot in the top five.
SIU's Kate Laegeler shot a 152 (74-78) to take home the individual title. Laegeler finished one stroke ahead of Drake's Olivia Lansing who shot a 153 (77-76) for second place. Indiana State's Breanne Smith, Bradley's Kelly Amundrud, Ball State's KC Cain, and Amanda Vogt of Drake all shot a 155 to tie for third place.
Alex Anderson finished second for the Salukis with a 160 (80-80) to tie for 11th place overall. Braidy Hood and Meg Gilley both finished with a 165, while Alisha Matthews came in fourth for SIU with a 167 (85-82). Lindsey Phillips shot a 179 (90-89) to round out the Saluki lineup. Carly Flynn competed as an individual, finishing with a 185 (88-97).
The Salukis will continue action April 11-12 at the Lady Colonel Classic in Richmond, Ky.
