Schirmer Named MVC Track Athlete of the Week

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Southern Illinois' Jeff Schirmer was named the Missouri Valley Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Week the league announced Tuesday.

Schirmer, who hails from Troy, Ill., ran 28:55.34 in the men's 10,000-meter run at the Mt. Sac Relays Thursday to finish third and land a provisional mark on his way to running at the NCAA Championships. Schirmer currently ranks 14th in the nation this season and is first in the league in two events this outdoor season including the 10,000-meter run.

Mike Beese (men's field) of UNI, Erica Moore (women's track) of Indiana State and Lauren Martin (women's field) of Indiana State joined Schirmer as the other award-winners in the MVC this week.
