CARBONDALE, Ill. - Former Saluki pitcher Adam Curynski has signed a contract to play for the Texarkana Gunslingers of the Continental Baseball League.
Curynski signed with the Gunslingers on July 30, and has seen action in relief in two games without allowing a run.
After a successful senior season, Curynski earned the Abe Martin Leadership award for the Salukis last season. He went 2-5 with a 4.52 ERA in 14 starts in 2009, and allowed only three home runs in 81 2/3 innings of work.
Curynski, who hails from Webster, N.Y., said the transition to professional baseball has been fun, albeit with a steeper learning curve.
"The hitters are much more prepared," Curynski said. "They come to the plate every at bat ready, so that makes your job as a pitcher much more difficult."
Prior to his 2009 campaign, Curynski was an honorable mention all-Missouri Valley pick for the Salukis after finishing 5-1 with a team-best 2.37 ERA in 2008.
