CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois head coach Kerri Blaylock announces the addition of Corinna Gonzalez for the 2010 season.
Gonzalez is a junior transfer from the University of Arizona where she helped the Wildcats to a 46-17 record in 2009. The Fort Collins, Colorado native played in nine games last season, batting .250. In 2008, Gonzalez had nine at-bats in eight game appearances, serving primarily as a pinch-hitter. In her third career at-bat, she tallied a three-run home run against La Salle.
In high school, Gonzalez was named to the all-league team three years, while garnering first-team all-state her senior year. As a junior in 2006, Gonzalez led the team to their first state championships in school history.
"We are very excited to have Corinna as a part of our program," says Blaylock. "She is a left handed 1st baseman that can hit with power. She will bring a wealth of experience and leadership after playing at such a high level the last 2 years."
