Softball wins two at Saluki Round Robin

CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois softball team defeated John A. Logan and SIU-Edwardsville at Charlotte West Stadium during the team's first fall tournament of the season. The Salukis shut down their opponents, earning a 2-0 win in both games.

Junior right-handed pitcher Danielle Glosson threw a complete-game five-hit shutout with nine strikeouts to top the Lady Vols, 2-0.
The Saluki offense came to life in the fourth inning, when senior second baseman Alicia Garza got things started with a double to left field. Garza stole third and scored off of Katie Wilson's double for a 1-0 lead. Wilson then stole third, scoring off of Christina Trapini's RBI single to tally SIU's second run of the game.

Two Saluki newcomers made a name for themselves as junior transfer Alex Peters got the win against SIU-Edwardsville allowing only one hit and striking out nine batters.
Natalee Weissinger also made an impressive start to her career at SIU. Weissinger's second time up to the plate she drove in two runs off a drive to center, putting the Salukis up 2-0 over SIU-Edwardsville.
The Cougars offense did not answer as they recorded only one hit and committed two errors for a final score of 2-0.
The Salukis will be back in action next weekend as they host the second series of the fall Round Robin tournament on Sunday, Sept. 27.
