Softball shuts down SEMO and Southern Indiana

CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois softball team wrapped up the final day of the Saluki Round Robin at Charlotte West Stadium Sunday afternoon. The Salukis shutout Southeast Missouri State, 4-0 and Southern Indiana, 14-0.

Freshman pitcher, Brittany Lang threw a complete-game four-hit shutout, striking out eight batters at the plate.
With bases loaded in the third inning Arizona transfer, Corinna Gonzalez, doubled in a pair of runs to break a scoreless game. Katie Wilson then scored from third on a wild pitch to put the Salukis up 3-0. Natalee Weissinger then scored in the sixth inning for the final score, 4-0.
Christina Trapani led the team going 2-for-three with two RBIs. Haley Gorman also went 2-for-3 against the Redhawks.

The Salukis got things started early in the first inning with a 1-0 lead over the Screaming Eagles of Southern Indiana.
Things heated up in the second inning as Courtney Kennedy's RBI double drove in Alicia Junker, while Mallory Duran tripled bringing in Gorman and Kennedy for a 4-0 lead.
In the third inning, freshman Michelle Bradley hit the first three home runs the Salukis would hit on the afternoon. Bradley homered again in the fourth along with classmate Sydney Shelton. The Salukis scored five runs on four hits in the fourth inning, followed by three more in the fifth for a final score of 14-0 to end the game on the eight-run rule.
Bradley had an impressive game going 2-for-4 with two homeruns and five RBIs. Gorman went 2-for-2, while Duran and Junker both went 2-for-3.
The Salukis will wrap up their fall competition Oct. 3-4 at the Illinois Collegiate Softball Tournament in Normal, Ill.
