CARBONDALE, Ill. -The Southern Illinois softball team welcomes Erin Glasco to the coaching staff as an assistant for the 2011 season.
Glaso, a Johnston City, Ill. native, joins the program after a successful collegiate career at Texas A&M University where she played two seasons as catcher and will be assisting with infield, hitters, and recruiting in her first season with the Salukis.
"I am so excited to welcome Erin to our staff," Head coach Kerri Blaylock said. "We set out to hire a quality individual to replace Christy (Connoyer) and I feel we have done that as someone who was an outstanding athlete that has College World Series experience and is now a promising young coach. "
At Texas A&M, Glasco started at catcher in almost all her games as an Aggie while batting .278 with 88 hits, 21 doubles, six home runs and 58 RBIs in two season while earning a degree in business management in May 2010.
Glasco also helped Texas A&M to a Women's College World Series national runner-up finish in 2008 and was a Big 12 All-Tournament selection in that same season as they swept both regular season and tournament championships.
"Erin comes from a great softball family and has played for an outstanding coach at Texas A & M and we will definitely use her knowledge of recruiting not only in the Midwest but also in Texas," Blaylock said.
Prior to coming to SIU, Glasco played professionally for the USSA Pride of the National Pro Fastpitch and Dornbirn Sharx in Dornbirn, Austria.
"I'm really excited to be back in Southern Illinois and have an impact on where I grew up and excited to work with Kerri (Blaylock) and Jen (Sewell)," Glasco said.
Before Texas A&M, Glasco spent two seasons at Notre Dame where she helped them to the NCAA Tournament in 2006 as a designated player and started in 39 games as catcher during the 2007 season.
Glasco has ties to SIU - her older sister Tara, played at Southern Illinois from 2001-2003.
At Johnston City High School, Glasco earned all-state and all-conference honors in each of her seasons (2002-05) while leading her team to four consecutive Black Diamond Conference Championships and two regional titles (2003, 2005). She also holds school records in career batting average and career hits.
