CARBONDALE, Ill. - Saluki Sports Properties has reached an agreement with WSIU Public Broadcasting to televise five Southern Illinois University men's basketball games this season.
The PBS station will air conference games at Bradley (Jan. 4), at Northern Iowa (Jan. 15), at Evansville (Jan. 29), versus Bradley (Feb. 5) and at Wichita State (Feb. 8).
"We're happy to have WSIU on board for the 2010-11 basketball season," said Will Patterson, General Manager for Saluki Sports Properties. "This agreement will allow our fans to see an additional slate of television games as well as provide our students real-world experience in the sports broadcasting industry."
WSIU's broadcast footprint reaches into five states (Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana, Tennessee and Missouri) through its three digital television channels. The station is widely carried by local cable and satellite providers, and is also available over-the-air.
"We're thrilled to have this opportunity to bring Saluki Basketball back to WSIU-TV," Greg Petrowich, Executive Director of WSIU. "With our coverage throughout the five-state region, more than three million people will be able to watch the Saluki's on public television."
The package of games brings to 12 the number of times Saluki Basketball will appear on local, regional or national television this season.
"Our partnership with Saluki Sports Properties will give students a rare opportunity to work on live televised sports productions," Petrowich said. "It's yet another hands-on opportunity that distinguishes SIUC from other universities."
