CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Saluki softball team is busy this week as they gear up to host back-to-back home games. SIU will kick off conference play Wednesday with a doubleheader against Evansville set for 3 p.m. at Charlotte West Stadium. SIU will turn around on Thursday to host Iowa State at 3 p.m.
SIU returned home this weekend from a six-day trip to Florida where the Salukis took on Stetson before competing in the USF Under Armour Tournament. Friday's tournament games were washed out, resulting in a rescheduling of the remaining games on Saturday and Sunday. SIU's originally scheduled games against Toledo and Boston were changed to contests against Maine and Fairfield. Southern Illinois went 1-3 on the road, snapping its three game losing streak with a 13-0, five-inning victory over Fairfield on Sunday.
Wednesday's matchup against the Purple Aces marks SIU's second home series of the season, having hosted the Coach B Classic March 6-7. Southern's 3-1 finish at their home tournament improves SIU to a 109-32 overall record at Charlotte West Stadium. In addition, the Salukis boast a .765 (65-20) winning percentage against conference opponents on their home field.
Following Wednesday's doubleheader with the Purple Aces, SIU will host Iowa State in a one-game matchup on Thursday at 3 p.m.
