CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois dropped a non-conference contest against Iowa State Thursday, as the Salukis fell 2-1 to the Cyclones.
Iowa State got things started in the second inning with a double from Sydni Jones. Jones eventually scored off an RBI single from Dalyn Vareala, giving the Cyclones a 1-0 lead. Iowa State would put one more run on the board before the end of the inning, gaining a 2-0 lead over the Salukis.
SIU got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning as Alicia Garza doubled, and scored off a sacrifice fly by Katie Wilson. Garza's run closed the gap, 2-1, giving Iowa State only one run over the Salukis.
The Salukis had a chance to score in the bottom of the seventh inning as Wilson singled down the left field line. She then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Natalee Weissinger. Although the Salukis were able to get into scoring position, they couldn't pull off another run, resulting in a 2-1 final score.
