Swimming and Diving finishes fifth at MAC Championships

YPSILANTI, Mich. - After the final day of competition, Southern Illinois finished where it started at the 2010 Mid-American Conference Championships. The Salukis ended in fifth place with a total of 478 points, while host Eastern Michigan captured the MAC title for the fourth consecutive year.
In the 3-meter diving finals, Justin Ruszkowski finished 10th with a personal-best score of 335.15 and Kyle Carevic finished three spots behind at 263.60.
Cesar Perez and Tim Silkaitis finished eighth and ninth respectively in the 200 back, posting an additional 20 points for Southern.
Chris Jordan and Tony Bousquet finished fourth and sixth in the 100 free B final for 12th and 14th place overall.
Jameson Kuper narrowly missed another individual MAC title in the 200 breast as he finished second to EMU's Scott Murphy and recorded a new personal-best time at 2:00.30. Steve Wood and Chris Gaffney finished third and seventh in the B final.
The sophomore tandem of Matt Parsons and Matt Kruse finished third and sixth in the 200 fly A final, while Barrett Mark finished second in the B final.
Parsons, Bousquet, Jordan and Kruse recorded a fifth-place finish in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:02.54.
In the last event of the championships, El Badrawi swam his way to a sixth-place finish in the 1650 free at a personal-best 15:54.38.
Three Salukis earned All-MAC first team status for their efforts this season - Kruse, Kuper and Parsons.
