Softball takes on No. 18/19 Illinois this week

CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois Softball team will step aside from conference play Wednesday for a mid-week matchup against the University of Illinois.
The Salukis (28-15, 13-3 MVC) will travel to Champaign for one game against the Fighting Illini (31-5, 5-2 Big 10). SIU heads into the series after going 1-2 against Illinois State this weekend. The Salukis were swept in Saturday's doubleheader, but came back with an eight-inning win on Sunday to regain the No. 1 spot in the Valley.
SIU is 1-3 against ranked opponents this season, defeating UMass and falling to Florida State, Michigan and Missouri.
First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Eichelberger Field in Champaign, Ill.
