DES MOINES, Iowa - The Southern Illinois track and field teams competed at the Drake Relays Friday. Jeneva McCall's second-place finish in the shot put was the highlight of the Salukis' first day of competition.
McCall threw 50-09.50 (15.48m) to finish second behind Illinois senior Aja Evans. Teammate Gwen Berry finished eighth with a best toss of 47-07.25 (14.51m).
In the pole vault, junior Miracle Thompson finished 13th clearing 12-01.50 (3.70m).
Meredith Hayes ran 14.01 in the 100-meter hurdles to finish eighth making Saturday's finals.
The Saluki 4x400-meter relay team of Tess Shubert, Kendra Deck, Tredene Davis and Kandise Thompson ran 3:41.35 for seventh-place, making Saturday's finals.
Kandise and Miracle teamed with Hayes and Malaikah Love to finish 18th in the 4x100-meter relay in 47.07.
In the men's pole vault, Cody Doerflein finished third clearing 17-04.50 (5.30m).
The Salukis will wrap up competition at the Drake Relays Saturday, with some of the team also competing at the Illinois State Invitational.
