CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. - Southern Illinois sophomore golfer Alisha Matthews was named to the 2009-10 National Golf Coaches Association Division I All-American Scholar Team that was announced on Monday.
Matthews, who also garnered Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete honorable mention accolades this year, carries a 3.68 grade point average in recreation and sport management. The St. Louis, Mo. native led the Salukis in scoring average for the second-straight season, posting a 79.0 stroke average while competing in all nine tournaments this year.
She earned three Top 10 finishes and recorded 16 rounds in the 70's. Matthews posted a low-round of 74 at the Towson Golf Classic, the team's first competition of the season. The sophomore earned a sixth-place finish at the same tournament, her highest finish of the season.
The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50 and student-athletes must have competed in at least 50 percent (for Division I) of the college's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.
