Normal, Ill. - The Southern Illinois women's golf team started its fall season with a third place finish at the Redbird Invitational on Sunday.
Each of the Salukis five scorers placed within the top 25, led by a solid performance by Meg Gilley, who finished 10th overall.
Gilley shot a 231 over three rounds (74, 77, 80) while Shaina Rennegarbe finished closely behind in a tie for 11th with an overall score of 233 (74, 82, 77)
"I am pleased with the outcome but the second round yesterday was a little rough but it's nice to see where we stand against conference opponents and a good way to start our season" head coach Diane Daugherty said
Alisha Matthews finished in a tie for 17th, with an overall score of 237 (77, 78, 82) while Ashleigh Rushing finished tied for 19th with a 238 (77, 82, 79) and Cassie Rushing rounded out the Salukis line up in a tie for 22nd with a 239 (79, 82, 78).
"With all our girls finishing in the top 25, it shows the depth of this team and that will be a key for us this season," Daugherty said.
Alex Anderson, who competed as an individual, rounded out the tournament in a tie for 42nd with a 245 (78, 85, 82).
The Salukis will be back on the links on Sept. 27-28 as they travel to the Cardinal Classic in Yorktown, Ind.
