Softball splits weekend series with Lake Land, SIUE

CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois softball team opened its fall season by splitting games with a win over Lake Land College and a loss to SIU-Edwardsville
Southern Illinois 11, Lake Land 3
Danielle Glosson threw a no-hitter through the bottom of the seventh as the Salukis pounded out 15 hits including a Mallory Duran solo home run to beat the Lakers 11-3. Sydney Shelton drove in three RBIs while Duran added 2 RBIs and Haley Gorman went 3-for-3 at the plate.
SIUE 3, SIUC 1
In game two, the score was tied 1-1 leading into the fifth when SIUE took control on a two run double by Chelsea Yankolovich to seal the win for the Cougars. Brittany Lang pitched 5 1/3 innings while Chelsea Held had two hits and Courtney Kennedy added the lone RBI for the Salukis.
"Overall I was pleased with our performance this weekend and were able to play two different lineups and will continue to evaluate players throughout the fall season," head coach Kerri Blaylock said.
"We are accomplishing what we set out to do in the fall. We don't back down and feel confident in all our players and their abilities," Blaylock said.
The Salukis will be back in action on Saturday when they host the second round robin tournament at Charlotte West.
