Women's golf finishes second at Cardinal Classic

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Southern Illinois women's golf team captured second place at the Cardinal Classic on Tuesday while breaking various school records along the way.
As a team, the Salukis shot a 302 on the day and a 601 overall to finish behind first place Western Michigan who shot a 596 overall.
"We're very happy the day to back it up with a 302 and the team performed really well," head coach Diane Daugherty said.
The Salukis also marked their place in the SIU record books in individual and team categories at the tournament.
Their overall score of 601 gave them the third all-time low score in 36-holes as well as a tie for the eighth best second round score.
Ashleigh Rushing, who finished on top for SIU with a seventh place finish overall (73-74), earned a tie for 12th all-time low 36-hole score with a 147.
Shaina Rennegarbe finished eighth overall (76-72) in the tournament earned a tie for fifth in school history for best second round score with a 72.
Rennegarbe also is now also tied in 10th for all-time low 36-hole score in school history with a 148.
Margaret Gilley finished in a tie for 12th in the tournament with a 151 (74-77) while Cassie Rushing tied for 25th with a 155 (76-79).
Alisha Matthews rounded out the team with a 155 (77-80) to finish in a tie for 36th.
Alex Anderson, who competed as an individual, finished in a tie for 64th with a 165 (83-82).
The Salukis are back in action on Oct. 4-5 as they head to Tulsa, Okla. for the Oral Roberts Shootout.
