CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois women's golf team will open its fall season on Saturday when they begin play at the Redbird Invitational hosted by Illinois State University.
The Salukis will be competing against their Missouri Valley Conference rivals Bradley, UNI, Drake, Illinois State, Indiana State, Wichita State, and Missouri State at the Weihbring Golf Course in Normal.
The invitational kicks off Saturday with a round of 36-holes and wraps on Sunday with a around of 18-holes.
"It's a great tournament for us to start the season and see how we match up to everyone else in the conference," head coach Diane Daugherty said.
Ashleigh Rushing, a native of Marion, will be making her Saluki debut as the No. 1 spot, after she earned the honor during an intersquad competition.
Alisha Matthews, who had the Salukis best average last season with a 79, will be in the No. 2 spot and Cassie Rushing will be the No. 3 golfer in the lineup.
Shaina Rennegarbe and Meg Gilley round out the field for the Salukis, respectively.
Start time is set for 8:30 a.m. for both days of the invitational.
