SIU VS. NO 21/21 DEPAUL
Southern trails its all-time series with DePaul 8-3 and the Blue Demons have won seven straight in the series. DePaul enters the matchup on a three game winning streak after suffering its second loss of the season to No. 7/8 Tennessee December 11 in New York. Anna Martin leads three Blue Demons averaging double-figures in scoring with an average of 18.0 points per game while Keisha Hampton is close behind at 17.4 points per game. Brittany Hrynko rounds out DePaul's top three scorers with an average of 10.8 points per game. Katherine Harry leads the Blue Demons in rebounding with an average of 7.8 boards per game.
SLOW START DOOMS SIU AT UT MARTIN
UT Martin opened on a 20-3 run and the Salukis couldn't recover in a 91-70 loss to the Skyhawks Sunday in Martin, Tenn. Cartaesha Macklin led the Salukis with 20 points, six rebounds and five assists while Teri Oliver added 17 points and Jordyn Courier chipped in 12 points.
SOUTHERN'S DYNAMIC DUO
SIU has two of the top four scorers in the MVC in guards Teri Oliver and Cartaesha Macklin. Oliver ranks second in the MVC and 25th nationally with an average of 19.2 points per game and Macklin ranks fourth in the Valley at 15.8 points per game.
MULTIPLES OF THREES
Junior guard Teri Oliver has made two or more 3-pointers in 15 consecutive games, which is the nation's longest active streak for consecutive games making multiple 3-pointers. Louisville's Shoni Schimmel was ahead of Oliver at 16-straight before having her streak broken Tuesday night. Oliver ranks fourth nationally with an average of 3.4 3-pointers made per game.
FROM C-DALE TO CHI-TOWN
The Salukis' matchup with No. 21/21 DePaul marks their third matchup against a Chicago-area school this season. The Salukis fell to Loyola-Chicago in their second game of the season November 17 before topping Chicago State November 20 for their first win of the year. Thursday's game will also be a homecoming for Southern's four Chicagoland natives. Freshmen Ariel Haynes, Jaleesa Armstrong and Mercedes Griffin are all from Chicago while sophomore CiCi Shannon is from Hazel Crest, Ill.
WE'RE TRENDING
The Salukis have had a few common factors that have followed their wins and losses thus far. Southern is 3-0 when they shoot for a better field goal percentage than their opponent and has shot better than 40 percent from the field in each of those wins. Also, SIU is 3-0 when leading at the half. Conversely, the Salukis are 0-6 in games where they have been out-rebounded.
SALUKIS STAY IN-STATE
SIU's 2011-12 schedule features matchups against seven different in-state schools. That is the most Illinois teams the Salukis have faced since the 1983-84 season. Southern is 227-133 all-time against other schools in the state of Illinois.
