CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Saluki track & field team will return home this weekend for their first scored meet of the season, as they host the SIU Invitational.
The meet will get under way on Friday at 4 p.m. with the weight throw, long jump, and pole vault. Competition will continue on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. with the remaining field events, while the running events begin at 11 a.m.
SIU will be facing six other schools inside the SIU Rec Center, including Ohio Valley Conference foes Murray State and SIU-Edwardsville, Memphis, and 2010 NJCAA women's indoor track national champion Iowa Central College. Also in the field are Southland Conference member Central Arkansas and Arkansas-Pine Bluff of the SWAC.
The Dawgs will look to build off of their success last weekend at the Rod McCravy Memorial, where Gwen Berry set a new meet record and the team, as a whole, collected 20 top ten finishes.
The Salukis won both the men's and women's titles at last season's SIU Invitational in convincing fashion. Combined, the team captured 17 event titles in the rout.
