Women's Golf finishes fourth at NIU Snowbird

TAMPA, Fla. - Cassie Rushing finished up an impressive two days with a second overall finish to help the SIU women's golf team finish fourth out of 11 teams at the NIU Snowbird.
Rushing completed day two with a 74 and closing out the tournament with an overall score of 146, which was two strokes back from the winner Heather Petronis of Saint Leo University.
Head coach Diane Daugherty said she was proud of Rushing's accomplishment and felt the team has improved over their last few matches.
"We improved our team score and feel good about the 311 and Cassie's second place finish was also a great contribution," Daugherty said.
As a team, the Salukis combined two day total came out a 626, just two strokes behind third place Murray State.
Saint Leo University took home the title with a 608, while Longwood University finished second with a 613.
Margaret Gilley and Shaina Rennegarbe were the next Saluki finishers as they both tied for 21st with overall scores of 159 while Alisha Matthews tied for 33rd with a 164.
Ashleigh Rushing rounded out the top five Saluki finishers with a 174 in a tie for 50th. Competing as an individual, Alex Anderson finished tied for 25th overall with a 162.
The Salukis will return to Carbondale to host the Saluki Invitational on Mar. 27-28.
