CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Saluki track & field team will kick off the 2011 outdoor season this Friday and Saturday, as they host the SIU Spring Classic Presented By Woodard Wellness Group.
The meet will include 11 other schools, including Missouri Valley Conference rivals Bradley, Illinois State, and Missouri State. Other schools competing include Bethel (Tenn.), Chicago State, Edgewood, Lincoln College, McKendree, Missouri Baptist, Saint Louis, and UIC.
Southern Illinois will be looking to carry on their success from the indoor season, where both teams finished second in the MVC Indoor Championships. Additionally, the team sent five athletes to the NCAA Indoor Championships, where three - J.C. Lambert, Malaikah Love, and Jeneva McCall - gathered All-American honors.
Competition will begin at 3 p.m. on Friday with the hammer throw and long jump. Action continues on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. with the high jump, pole vault, and discus. Running events will begin at 11:30 a.m. with the 4x100 relay.
Fans attending the meet this weekend are encouraged to bring their own seating since the seating bowl at McAndrew Stadium has been removed.
