The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced today the NABC Division I All-District teams for 2011, recognizing the nation's best men's collegiate basketball student-athletes.
Southern Illinois senior forward Carlton Fay was named to the District 16 Second Team. Fay led the Salukis in scoring and ranked eighth in the Missouri Valley Conference with 12.7 points per game. He ranked third in the MVC in scoring (15.4 points) in conference games.
Fay scored in double figures 21 times for SIU, including a 33-point outing vs. Illinois State on Jan. 9. He hit the game-winning shots with two seconds remaining versus UNI on Jan. 1, and 12 seconds left versus the Redbirds on Jan. 9.
"This honor shows the respect that coaches have for Carlton Fay," said Saluki head coach Chris Lowery. "He's our first NABC All-District player since Randal (Falker) got it in 2008, and after not making the MVC's all-conference team, it's great to see Carlton get the recognition he deserves."
Selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC, these student-athletes represent the finest basketball players across America. The 245 student-athletes, from 24 districts, are eligible for the State Farm Coaches' Division I All- America teams, to be announced on Saturday, April 2, at 9:30 a.m. (EDT) at the Hilton Americas Hotel in Houston during the NABC Convention and NCAA® Final Four®.
