Quick Hits
The Salukis own a 46-24-1 record over SEMO and have won four out of their last five against the Redhawks. That one loss was a 13-1 defeat at home last season on April 20.
Southern Illinois is 28-23 all-time against the Illinois Fighting Illini. Illinois defeated the Salukis, 8-2, in 12 innings in Carbondale back on March 20. SIU won at Illinois Field last season, 3-2.
In four games last week, SIU's four starting pitchers combined to allow just four runs (three earned) in 29.1 innings and all four starters went at least six innings. The eight runs that the entire Saluki pitching staff (including relievers) has allowed in the last four games are the fewest since the final four games of the regular season in 2008, when SIU gave up just seven runs in four-straight wins.
The Salukis have won a season-high four-straight games and the Dawgs did not trail in any of those four wins.
SIU scored 19 runs off of 33 hits in the sweep of Evansville last weekend. Southern hit 12 doubles and five home runs in the series.
