ST. LOUIS - Southern Illinois thrower Jeneva McCall has been named State Farm Missouri Valley Conference women's field athlete of the week, the conference announced Tuesday.
This is the McCall's fourth athlete of the week honor in 2010-11 and first in outdoor competition after taking three during the indoor campaign.
McCall had a dominant weekend at the Joey Haines Invitational in Cape Girardeau, Mo., as she took event titles in all three of the women's throws events. The junior began the weekend by taking the hammer throw title with a personal-best mark of 218-04, while leading the Saluki charge that finished one through six. McCall carried that dominance over to Saturday with wins in the discus throw (160-09) and shot put (53-04.50) over teammates Gwen Berry and Kim Fortney, along with Arkansas State's Julia Agawu and Memphis' Marina Vojinovic.
In the weekly USTFCCCA computer rankings, both squads moved up in their respective polls. The women's team rose two spots to No. 23 in the nation, while the men's team sits with the No. 63 ranking.
The Dawgs will next compete this Saturday when they head south for the Ole Miss Relays.
