Saluki Athletics to break ground on Track and Field Complex

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Southern Illinois Athletics will break ground on the new Saluki Track and Field Complex with a ceremony Monday, May 23.
The ceremony will begin at 4:30 p.m. on the site of the new facility directly east of Abe Martin Field followed immediately by a reception in the John Paul Cook Club at SIU Arena.
Speakers at the groundbreaking will include SIUC Chancellor Rita Cheng, Director of Athletics Mario Moccia, head track and field coach Connie Price-Smith and track and field student-athlete Jeff Schirmer.
In case of inclement weather, the ceremony and reception will take place in the SIU Arena Lobby.
The Saluki Track and Field Complex is a $3.96 million new construction project that includes a polyurethane synthetic track, a synthetic turf infield, accommodations for all field events, spectator seating and a 4,500 square foot locker support building. It is scheduled to be completed in December, 2011.
