CARBONDALE, Ill. - Saluki men's basketball coach Chris Lowery announced that junior college guard T.J. Lindsay signed a letter of intent on Wednesday to play for Southern Illinois University next season.
Lindsay, a native of Mansfield, Ohio, played the last two seasons at JUCO powerhouse Monroe College in New York. Last season, he averaged 7.4 points and 3.5 assists per game, and helped lead the team to a third-place finish at the national tournament.
"He's the type of player who is a factor on the floor at the end of games," Lowery said. "That's what he's done for two years at Monroe. He's been a finisher -- whether it's a pass or a clutch shot or a defensive stop -- he's helped them win a bunch of games."
The 6-foot-3, 175-pound combo guard played in 31 of 36 contests for the Mustangs last year, missing five games early in the season due to injury. He finished the season strong, hitting the game-winning shot with 3.7 seconds remaining to beat Coffeyville Community College and propel Monroe to the Final Four.
At Mansfield H.S., Monroe averaged 18.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists in his senior year. He was named Northwest District Player of the Year, Ohio Cardinal Conference Player of theYear and was named to the Ohio North/South all-star game. He was also a McDonald's All-America nominee.
