CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois softball team will host the first of two fall round-robins this Saturday at Charlotte West Stadium.
The Salukis play host UT-Martin, Southeast Missouri State, and John A. Logan College in the four game round-robin. They face the Skyhawks at noon and Redhawks at 2 p.m.
"We are really excited to play and we've been practicing really hard and it will be nice to face an opponent to see where we are at," Head coach Kerri Blaylock said. "It will also give some of the kids some game action and let the newcomers see what college ball is about."
SIU returns 11 players from its 2011 season where it went 36-17 en route to a third place finish in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Dawgs went an impressive 11-1 at home in conference action and 16-7 overall at Charlotte West last season.
The remainder of the Salukis fall schedule includes a second round-robin on Sunday, Sept. 25 at Charlotte West and the Illinois Collegiate Softball Championships on Oct. 1-2 in Normal, Ill.
