Women's Golf tied for lead at Cardinal Classic

YORKTOWN, Ind. - After round one, the Southern Illinois women's golf team sits a tie for first place at the Cardinal Classic.
Each of the Salukis top four finishers sit in the top ten with Ryann Gilley leading the way as she is in a tie for second with a first round score of 74 (38-36).
As a team, SIU shot a combined total of 301 to take the lead with host Ball State and sit seven strokes in front of third place Indiana State.
"Overall we played pretty solid and our No. 3-5 players stepped up and played to their potential," Head coach Alexis Mihelich said. "Our low round was from our freshman Ryann Gilley who is really shining and I think if we have some solid play tomorrow we will be hard to beat."
Margaret Gilley is in a tie for fifth place with a 75 while Cassie Rushing and Shaina Rennegarbe are tied for eighth place as each shot a 76.
Rennegarbe impressed on the back nine, where she shot a 35 which was the lowest nine hole score in the first round.
Alisha Matthews rounded out the competition for the Salukis with her 79 to put her in a tie for 20th while Ashleigh Rushing competed as an individual with a 86 on the afternoon to tie for 58th overall.
The Salukis are back in action tomorrow as they close the tournament with a round of 18 holes at the Players Club Golf Course. A shotgun start is set for 9 a.m. ET
