ST. LOUIS - Margaret Gilley has been named this week's Missouri Valley Conference golfer of the week.
Gilley shined for the Salukis at the Cardinal Classic Sept 18-19 in Yorktown, Ind. as she took home medalist honors and led the team to its first non-home tournament victory since 2007. This was her first weekly award honors in her career.
The senior co-captain shot a career low round of 70 in Sunday's final round to win the tournament by three strokes with a 145 overall score.
Her 145 overall score ties the seventh all-time low 36-hole score in SIU record books. It was also Gilley's first collegiate medalist finish. It also ties the fourth-best second round score and ties her for seventh on the all-time low 18-hole score in school history.
As a team, she helped the Salukis to a overall score of 604 which is the fourth lowest 36 hole score in school history.
A total of 10 teams and 65 individuals competed in the event held under threatening skies with temperatures in the 60s and low 70s on the 6,258 yard, par-72 course at The Players Club in Yorktown, Ind. The tournament was hosted by Ball State University.
