Alisha Matthews named MVC Golfer of the Week

ST. LOUIS - Alisha Matthews has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week, announced by the league Wednesday.
Matthews, a senior, became the second SIU medalist this season as she took top honors at the SIUE Intercollegiate Tuesday. The St. Louis native battled blustery wins earned her first career medalist honors with an overall score of 155 (80-75), to beat teammate Margaret Gilley by one stroke.
Her 75 in round two tied the lowest round of the tournament at the Sunset Hills Country Club. Matthews becomes the second straight medalist for the Salukis, as Gilley won the Cardinal Classic on Sept. 18.
She also helped the Salukis take home their second straight tournament title as the Salukis bested second place Austin Peay and host SIU-Edwardsville by 31 strokes.
The Salukis are back in action on Oct. 10-11 at the MAC Preview.
