CARBONDALE, Ill. - Saluki Athletics announced today that sophomore forward Antonio Bryer will be withheld from playing in Saturday's men's basketball game at Saint Louis.
Bryer was one of three players who were ejected from Tuesday night's game at SIUE for committing a flagrant foul during a scuffle with six minutes remaining in the second half. Jerome Jones and Ray Lester of SIUE were also ejected, along with four other SIUE players who violated NCAA rules by leaving the bench. Officials reviewed the video and determined no fighting occurred.
The Missouri Valley Conference reviewed the incident on Wednesday and cleared Bryer to play. SIUE announced earlier today, however, that Jones and Lester would be suspended for one game for "the loss of emotional control." The SIU administration followed suit by withholding Bryer and will have no further comment on the situation.
Bryer has started all three games for the Salukis (3-0) and is averaging 6.0 points. He has already tripled his point total over his freshman year, in which he scored six points. SIU is off to its best start since 2007.
