CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Southern Illinois track and field team will continue outdoor season competition this Friday and Saturday when they travel to Terre Haute, Ind. to participate in the Indiana State Pacesetter.
The meet will take place at the Marks Field on the campus of ISU. It will be a quadrangular scored meet featuring the host Sycamores, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and Butler University.
The Salukis will look to rebound from their loss last weekend when they fell to Illinois State in a dual meet.
Jeneva McCall swept the throws competitions for the third consecutive week at the Illinois State Dual meet to continue her reign as the top female thrower in the country garnering the MVC Field Athlete of the Week honor. McCall recorded a toss of 58-03.75 in the shot put and 192-9 in the discus throw to hold the longest marks in the nation.
Cody Doerflein will look to continue his dominance in the pole vault competition. Doerflein took the title for the third consecutive week at the Illinois State Dual meet. The senior currently holds the top mark in the Missouri Valley Conference with the clearing of 17-06.5 that he recorded on March 31 at the Ole Miss Invitational. With the effort, Doerflein raised his previous career best, the second-highest in Southern Illinois history, by a quarter-inch to currently rank him eleventh in the nation.
The Southern Illinois women enter competition nationally ranked as they have held a top-25 position for the second week in the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Association's (USTFCCCA) rankings. They currently sit ranked 21st in the country. The men are ranked 79th.
Competition begins Friday at 2 p.m. (ET) with the women's hammer throw and men's shot put. Saturday's action begins at 11 a.m. (ET) with the women's discus.
